Naples’ Most Iconic Landmark
Few places capture the spirit of Naples quite like the Naples Pier. Stretching 1,000 feet into the Gulf of Mexico, this historic boardwalk has been the heart of the community for well over a century — a place where locals gather, fishermen cast their lines, and visitors take in those famous Gulf sunsets.
From Supply Dock to Community Hub
The Naples Pier was originally built in 1888, not as a tourist attraction, but as a working pier. In the town’s early days, Naples was only accessible by boat, so the pier served as a vital dock for passengers, freight, and mail arriving from Key West and beyond. Without it, Naples could never have grown into the resort town it became.
Surviving Storms and Time
The Pier has faced its share of challenges. Hurricanes in 1910, 1926, and 1960 damaged or destroyed major sections of the structure, but the community always rebuilt. After Hurricane Irma in 2017, the city undertook extensive repairs, reaffirming the Pier’s importance as a cultural and recreational centerpiece.
Today’s Naples Pier Experience
Now more than just a landing dock, the Naples Pier is a destination in itself. Visitors stroll the planks to watch dolphins, pelicans, and those spectacular Gulf sunsets. Fishing is still free — no license required — keeping the pier true to its roots as a gathering place for all.
For many, no trip to Naples is complete without a walk down the pier, a moment to look back at the city’s coastline, and a reminder that this landmark has been welcoming people to Naples for more than 130 years. Stay tuned for the new and improved pier which is in development.
